Water Pointe to Host Second Annual Golf for Busch Wildlife Sanctuary

Water Pointe Realty Group and the Rotary Club of Jupiter-Tequesta are excited to host the second annual Golf for Busch Wildlife, a golf tournament benefitting Busch Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization focused on protecting and conserving Florida’s wildlife and natural resources. With a goal to rescue, rehab, release, and educate, this center is of vital importance to our community. Admission to the center is by donation and it is open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday – Saturday. Since its founding more than 30 years ago, Busch Wildlife reports that over 2 million guests have participated in its educational programs.

With Florida’s population rapidly increasing and development in overdrive, nearly 90% of the patients treated at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary come in with issues directly correlated to humans. Currently, the organization is working on expanding its rehabilitation areas for wildlife and developing a nearly 20-acre campus that will almost double its space. It is evident that

Water Pointe Realty Group and the Rotary Club of Jupiter-Tequesta were able to raise $25,000 for Busch Wildlife Sanctuary through last year’s tournament, and are hoping to do even better this year. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at North Palm Beach Country Club and will kick off with a shotgun start at 1:00 PM. Entry price of a foursome includes golf, on-course beverage, dinner reception, tournament prizes, and raffle event. To register or for more information contact Katie Lucie 561-427-5156 or Katie@WaterPointe.com.

Home Projects to Tackle Before Selling

Making the decision to sell your home is a task within itself. Then there’s the process of shaping it into what typical buyers are looking for. Whether it’s a quick fix or something to save for the weekend, here are 9 home projects to tackle before selling your home courtesy of Florida Realtors®.

1. Wash the Windows

Washing your windows is something that often gets put on the back burner, especially if you have kids or pets. Make it a habit to stay on top of this once showings of your home begin.

2. Do a Deep Clean

There’s cleaning, and then there’s deep cleaning. Although most people have a typical routine of chores around the house, it’s important to accomplish a solid deep clean of your space right before it hits the market. Don’t forget the nooks and crannies!

3. Declutter

Decluttering your space is one of those home projects that is beneficial in more ways than one. Not only does it leave you with little to hide during showings, but also less things to transport and unpack when it comes time to move.

4. Minimize Pet Paraphernalia

We love Fido and his Bark Box subscription, but potential buyers might not. Try to minimize the amount of toys, beds, leashes, and other pet items left out around your space when trying to sell.

5. Apply a Fresh Coat of Paint

One of the easiest home projects to refresh the interior of your home is giving the walls a fresh coat of paint. Cover up any holes from hanging decor or scuffs from moving furniture, and be diligent about not creating new ones before closing.

6. Upgrade Cabinetry

The looks of your cabinetry can make or break the aesthetic of a room. Whether it’s outdated, painted, or missing a door, it might be time to upgrade your cabinets.

7. Add a Backsplash

A backsplash can be the focal point or the finishing touch. Consider adding a backsplash in your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc. Tip: try to avoid busy patterns or eclectic designs specific to your personal taste so potential buyers can better envision living in and influencing the space themselves.

8. Address Pests

Pests are the guests in your home that nobody invited. Although these critters are to be expected, especially while living in Florida, be sure to address the pest situation in your home and get it under control before showings begin.

9. Increase Curb Appeal with Landscaping

You can only make a first impression once, and the curb appeal of your home is the first thing everyone sees upon arrival. Whether you are maintaining or upgrading, remember that the exterior landscaping leaves a lasting impression during a showing or Open House.

Do you have questions about selling your home, or any of the home projects listed above? Contact Water Pointe Realty Group and our agents will have the answers!

Mark Eble Participates in Ride to End ALZ

Water Pointe Realty Group congratulates Mark Eble for his participation in The Alzheimer’s Association’s Ride to End ALZ. A cycling event benefitting the fight against Alzheimer’s, participants in the Ride to End ALZ raise funds and awareness to advance research toward the disease.  This event took place July 8-10 in South Carolina.

Over the course of 5 weeks Mark trained to ride more than 80 miles per day. Although much harder than anticipated, he was set on completing the 260-mile Ride to End ALZ. “The frequent hills and brutal temps took a toll on this flatlander, but I was determined,” he said.

Mark began with a goal to raise $750, the minimum required to ride in the event. “I figured I was just going to write a $750 check and be done with it,” he explained. However, after sending a few emails and turning to social media, Mark was surprised to discover how many people were willing to help out. Friends, family, schoolmates, colleagues, and fellow Water Pointers came together to help him raise $15,665 — the 5th highest total in the entire fundraiser.

His group with Calder Brothers Cycling Team raised over $116,000. This is almost twice as much from the previous year, and dubbed the team as the highest fundraiser for 2022. In total, the event of about 350 riders raised over $860,000 toward the fight to end Alzheimer’s. “I’m proud of what we did,” Mark said. “I was more impressed and touched by the generosity… thank you to everyone who donated!”

Caring Fields Felines – Local Charity Spotlight

Caring Fields Felines is one of many local nonprofits that Water Pointe Realty Group supports.

Located on 5 acres of wooded property in Palm City is Caring Fields Felines — a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization.

This agency is a no-kill rescue & adoption organization on a mission to reduce the number of homeless felines in Martin County and surrounding areas. Established in 2000 with 30 cats and a handful of volunteers, today this sanctuary is home to more than 175 cats with over 50 volunteers working to keep things running smoothly.

Caring Fields Felines is about CATS:
C aring Fields Sanctuary provides a natural, yet protected environment for more than 175 cats.
A doptions: Caring Fields Felines found forever homes for over 400 cats last year.
T NVR: Trap-Neuter-Vaccine-Return program successfully helps control the feral cat population.
S pay/Neuter: Each year, CFF spays & neuters hundreds of cats.

At Caring Fields Felines there is a major emphasis is on CARING. Seven staff members and a team of dedicated volunteers take care of everything from feeding & socializing the cats to keeping the facilities clean, comfortable, and safe 365 days a year. In some cases, CFF looks out for animals from beginning to end. While the goal is to help all “residents” find a loving forever home, there are some that will spend the rest of their days at the sanctuary. No matter what, they are truly well cared for in a loving home.

The residents live in a protected, free-roaming environment complete with cottages they can utilize whenever they want. There are plenty of areas to climb, spots to nap in the sunshine, and safe places to harbor them from the elements. Each building throughout the safe amp protected campgrounds serves a special purpose, including:
– Lisa’s Safe Haven, a colorful cottage reserved for cats diagnosed with leukemia and feline immune virus.
– The Cattery is home to adoptable cats and kittens, including some with special needs.
– New neo natal nursery that has enabled CFF to save so many more kittens.

Cats come to Caring Fields Felines from various sources and all walks of life. Many are given to CFF directly from shelters that practice euthanasia in an effort to spare their lives. The organization works closely with a shelter in Okeechobee as well as shelters in Palm Beach County. Volunteers pick them up from Animal Control, kitten litters rescued from outdoor colonies, or owners are unable to care for them any longer.

Efforts to control the feral cat problem in the community includes CFF’s Trap-Neuter-Vaccine-Return (TNVR) program. Not only does this successfully diminish the number of homeless cats, but also improves the health and wellbeing of the cat community as a whole. Operation Catsnip through CFF offers low-cost or no-cost services that have spayed/neutered over 4000 cats across the Treasure Coast.

“Watching the organization grow since I’ve been involved over more than a decade has been very gratifying,” said Katherine Goodman, Realtor® with Water Pointe Realty Group. Katherine dedicates much of her free time to Caring Fields Felines by volunteering at events, selling properties that have been donated to CFF, and assisting with trapping/transporting/adoptions. She was even the Realtor® who helped locate and close on CFF’s current 5-acre property. Katherine also loves working the various fundraising events throughout the year.

One of Caring Fields Felines’ major fundraisers is its baby shower for kittens. People bring food and other supplies to donate while also getting to coo & cuddle (and hopefully adopt) the cats and kittens. “I love the annual Kitten Shower,” Goodman said. “It’s so wonderful to see so many people excited to find a new furry family member and watch them leave with their new baby! Whether it’s an adult or a kid- they’re all beaming!

Another fundraiser that CFF organizes is its holiday event Merry Meows. Goodman typically works check-in for the event with the same gals and many of the same folks return each year. “The cottages where the resident cats live are all dressed up with twinkling lights and it’s just magical,” she said. Although the event has not taken place in the last 2 years due to COVID-19, Goodman reports that online fundraising is still going strong.

While the services offered by Caring Fields Felines are vital, they are made possible solely by the generosity of donors. CFF receives no state, federal, or local financial aid. Any donations you make to CFF help provide the necessary food, medical, and housing requirements for residents so that they may live peacefully at the sanctuary until they are adopted. Caring Fields Felines is located at 6807 SW Wedelia Terrace, Palm City, FL and can be reached by phone at 772-463-7386.

Water Pointe Realty Group Hosts 2022 Economic Forum

Water Pointe Realty Group hosted an Economic Forum gathering highly knowledgeable individuals in the real estate and financial fields.  The event was created to provide attendees insight on what to expect from our local economy moving forward.  The event took place on Thursday, June 30 at the Martin County REALTORS® of the Treasure Coast auditorium.

Organized by Broker Dave Derrenbacker, with the support of his fellow partners at Water Pointe, the Forum was the first of its kind to be hosted by the firm. There was a significant turnout of Water Pointe agents and invited guests. All were eager to gain a better understanding of where the economy is heading. The panel consisted of Ryan Strom of Team Parks Inc, Reina Ramos of City National Bank of Florida, George Haley of SouthState Bank, Ted Astolfi of Economic Council of Martin County, Mike Dadko of Sailfish Wealth Management, and Jeff Miller of Treasure Coast Management Specialists.

“One of the most informative economic summits I have attended over the past couple of years. It was an insight into our local community and our economy from five different sectors of our business. Very well done,” states Broker Associate Dan Brady, Director at Martin County Realtors® of the Treasure Coast.

In an economy, and specifically an industry that has been unpredictable over the last couple years, it is imperative for peers to come together to learn about the latest developments and standards. REALTORS® have a shared goal of servicing their clients and community in the best way possible. The attendees of this Economic Forum have taken a step toward expanding their knowledge for the benefit of their customers.

Martin County REALTORS® of the Treasure Coast works tirelessly to support local agents. The association creates an inclusive environment that welcomes collaboration by making its facilities and resources openly available to members.

Phyllis Choy Promotes Literacy Through Book Drive

Water Pointe Realty Group congratulates Phyllis Choy on her recent book drive to promote literacy. Donations were made to Thelma Pitman Preschool, the Edna Runner Tutorial Center, and Drexel Senior Public Housing Development.

Phyllis facilitated a very successful drive last year. She surpassed her initial goal of 400 new books and in the end collected more than 1,100 books for the children of Belle Glade & Pahokee. Phyllis was even featured on WPTV News Channel 5 for her efforts!

“The book drive promoting literacy was a thought that occurred to me during the pandemic — how can I help when public libraries are all closed,” she said. “As a Commissioner with the Palm Beach County Housing Authority, I knew many of our residents could not afford to purchase new books. My goal was to collect and distribute donations throughout public housing sites in Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay. The generosity was overwhelming.”

After the impact that was made in 2021, Phyllis decided to do it again. This year, however, the books she collected were donated to both children and senior citizens. Over 600 children’s books were delivered to Thelma Pitman Preschool as well as the Edna Runner Tutorial Center. Another 600 books and tablets were delivered to the Drexel Senior Public Housing Development.

“This year the focus was on children in Jupiter and seniors in West Palm Beach,” Phyllis said. “Literacy is a must for all ages! The generosity and kindness shown by everyone who donated books is so very appreciated.”

In total, Phyllis Choy has received more than 2,300 book donations over the last two years. Her efforts are imperative to the communities she serves and many people would not have access to literature otherwise. Water Pointe Realty Group is extremely proud of Phyllis and her passion for helping others.
